Quiet times… movies, knitting, writing, haircuts…

I think once I start waking up at a decent time (you know, -before- 1 PM) I’ll do my SL thing during the day when my mom is at work (its too slow on my end when they’re both on SL) then do my other things for the rest of the day.

Movies!

Today though I watched Get Smart (totally awesome and perfect!), Evan Almighty (really funny!) and I just now finished Ironman.  I loved Ironman.

“This is perfectly safe…. *BLASTS off screen* …. I was not expecting that.”

Knitting!

So good thing I brought my Ravenclaw scarf along.  I worked on it a bit on the ride of here and got another set of bars done.  I’ve got 2 more sets to go then its done!\

Writing!

Also going to be working on a new book project for Q’lanth.  Well its not exactly new.  I wrote it earlier this ear I think and its the story of Adrian, starting at the age of 13 when.  Katie read it as the prolog to my trilogy but I think I’m just going to roll with it and turn that into the beginning of a book to preceed the trilogy (or is it proceed? damn headache…).  I’m going to title it something about Rose, Blossoming Rose or… something.  Because its about Adrian turning into who she is when the trilogy starts.

Haircut!

I may get my hair cut properly Wednesday.  I didn’t mention it before but I cut my own hair a couple Fridays ago.  I had a total lapse of sanity and just did it.  It feels soooo good short but it looks like crap.  Really though I’ve never been a hair person…. I’ve only truely liked one haircut my whole life.  There was one more after that that came close, though.

What I want is something fun and funky! I actually found a picture done in Pose of a gal who has hair like I’d imagine Zyra’s to look after she gets it cut and that would be totally awesome hair.  Its too bad I can’t cut it like that.  Why, asks you? Nobody has any clue what I try to tell them what I want my haircut.  >.<  So why bother?

Damnit all, I forgot my hairspray at home.  I was going to bring it and play with my hair some.  Ah well.

So yeah.  That’s that.  Just gonna take some chill time.

Character/Writer Similarities & Differences: Adrian

Yeah, you read that right.  I’m going to list out all the similarities/differences between myself and my characters.  Why? Because its my damn blog and I’ll do with it as I please! ^-^

I’ll start from the top.  Whatever that means in this case O.o

Similarities:

Adrian: Alcoholic and other vices. Me: I could be easily so I’m just going to quit while I’m ahead.  And… I’m working on those other things.

Adrian: Has dark red hair. Me: Everybody says my hair is red but its -not- you fucktards! Its strawberry blond and I don’t care what color strawberries are, because my hair does not look like god damn strawberries! grrrrr!

Adrian: She gets a little worked up sometimes and flings colorful words around. Me: ….. see my response about hair color above. ^-^

Adrian: Considers it a personal duty to help her close friends. Me: I’m very dedicated to friends and sometimes just acquaintances.  I’ll spoil you rotten if you let me.

Adrian: Emotionally distant/stand offish. Me: I’ve been told as much.

Adrian: Is bi. Me: …… well I don’t discriminate ^-^

Differences:

Adrian: She’s brave.  Me: I’m a pussy.

Adrian: Very smart and very well studied on many things.  Me: Smart but not that quick.  I know a little tiny bit about various things.

Adrian: Horny little devil.  Me: My sexual appetite is barely on the radar! lol

Adrian: Physically fit.  Me: Can someone open this peanut butter jar for me?

Hmm.  That’s all I can think of right now.  I had this post open for a few hours so I was digging for some of these similarities.  I’ll update this post later if I think of anything else.

Why do I do this to myself! arg!

Woot. Post 2 today.

I keep having problems holding me back on writing… mostly these problems nag at me because I want to do everything correctly because I want to publish someday so others can enjoys this world as much as I do.  Prolly self publish, there’s no way anyone is going to publish a series with pirates, magic, anthros, humans, sex, alcoholism, prostitution, anti-religious/political undertones and a mix of all those with each other, let’s just face that fact straight up, yo.

So even if I publish myself, that doesn’t mean I can’t be anal and strive for perfection and try to do everything by-the-book, right?

Last year or so I made a post about trying to learn how to be a better writer.  Sometime between then and now I’ve decided that trying to go by-the-book or even what people like to read is not the way to go.  I would read a pile of “do these” and “don’t do these” tips and go pick up a couple fictions to read and see all those tips trampled. And these are not unheard of authors.

What the fuck am I supposed to do then??

I have considered off and on the perspective of my Q’lanth series.  While Adrian is dominate, I do get a lot of enjoyment jumping around heads.  And I don’t mean every other scene or within scenes.  I love getting to know other characters and how they think and see other things although I suppose I could do all that from Adrian’s perspective.

I think it would suck keeping -only- in Adrian’s head because there’s a lot of adventure going on and there’s a lot of story between the characters and back story (like how Zander and Rayna met, how else am I supposed to do that? “Oh, we met in the library. She was drooling on a map.” I’d loose a TON of words!)

What I’ve been writing might be called a third person subjective.  You experience the story and the current character’s thoughts and feelings and you find out stuff about the story as that character finds things out. I’ve heard the Wheel of Time series is done in the fashion I’m shooting for. I’ve also heard its really hard. I’m not a very good writer (ADMIT IT! I can weave some excellent stories, but writing them? ha!) so to me its not hard. I write what comes to me, if the flow gunks up then I’m doing something wrong or I need a break.

So I’m having some perspective problems to work out and some problems with… I don’t know, mood? Not tone…

What do people here think about a novel that reads like an anime?

And by anime I mean… Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, etc… you get to know the characters/big picture through the series, there’s funny moments and tragic moments, there’s a bad guy in every episode…. I dunno, I always felt everything coming through like I was watching an anime.  I want it to read like that because those shows are so well done and really suck me in.

And… I have more issues with my writing but that’s whats bugging me right now.

I have found one thing to keep in mind whenever I’m feeling lost and desperate:

I have to write what I like.

There’s a lot of stuff I like to read out there and there’s a lot of people that like those various things.  Right?

Right.

*ETA* Oh yeah! Another thing that keeps bugging me that I need to stop doing… is repeating information/things the reader already knows throughout the story (via whatever means). This annoys me and I’m sure I don’t know the full extent of this >.<
*ETA… again* I burned off my 2 Celine Dion CDs and listening to them and liking them. Its really soothing music. I don’t have much of that LOL :-p

Good day of writing!

Current Mood:ecstatic emoticon ecstatic

Yesterday (Sunday) I had a very good day of writing. Just a smidgen over 5,300 words! I say very good day of writing because I haven’t written much lately. And I learned a lot.

Awhile back I started a “deleted scene” as we call them (makoes?) with the super uncreative title of “Adrian Meets Cydus”. Deep down inside I really just wanted to write some straight sex stuff (ha! I always choke on that stuff) but its, of course, taken an a life of its own. And a little ways into this thing, I was like “Ewww, the sex would be totally inappropriate, WTF?”). But now I see where its going.

“Adrian Meets Cydus” takes place about… 5 to 6ish years before my trilogy takes place.

Things I learned:

1. That Adrian started to go as Rose for her pirating name which eventually turned into part of the name of her ship (thanks to Whitepaws, he found out how the rest of it came about)

2. I learned some about Cydus.

3. I learned where/how Adrian met Lonna and how Adrian ended up promising to help Lonna out of the situation she was in. (Lonna popped up in a random bar in rewrite #1 and I knew her instantly when I saw her pop up in “Adrian Meets Cydus”)

4. More about how Adrian has been shaped into who she is currently. Poor gal. I need to stop torturing her. ….. ;-)

5. About Doc’s and Adrian’s relationship. It wasn’t all pretty and sweet father/daughter like I thought it always was.

6. How Adrian learned hand-on stuff about ships, sailing, knots and stuff, rather than just from books. I knew Doc had a big helping hand in that, but I really have figured out now.

And there might have been more. But y’know.

So I’m either half or 3/4 way through this thing. She’s got some revenge to dish out to a certain Captain and a certain guy in a certain brothel and the favor to repay to Lonna.

Now I’m wondering when Cydus and Adrian are supposed to bump uglies and when Cydus disappears. I got the impression from rewrite #1 of book 1 that they had met rather informally a couple times. I think its at their last meeting together before they meet up at current times. Hmmm… maybe Cydus will run off and do his thing for a couple 2 or 3 years then they’ll happen upon each other again.

I hate skipping forward in time like that, but its not like I’m trying to write something that’s going to be published or put as is into any of my books.

Bah. I HATE the organizing part of this novel series!

jewelry stuff, OHOW, biking, writing

Look look! Guess who loves me?

My mommy!

We were talking on the phone yesterday (Wednesday) whilst she was poking about Micheal’s. We agreed an her sending me some stuff to make her stuff and I’d keep the rest and she wanted to see me making stuff with good quality stuff.

So, much to my surprise, this is what was waiting for me TODAY!

(its a HUGE pic)

000011.jpg

Basically, she got everything I would have got if I had had the money :-p she even got me a new tool set (old set was rusty) and A CRIMP TOOL! I’ve been wanting one of those for ages. And TONS of crimp beads.

Something a bit annoying though: Apparently there’s different sized crimping tools for the different sized crimp beads! WTF. This is fine as I have the bigger tool to use the bigger beads which will be perfect for necklaces, which was what we were planning on. I was thinking the little ones would be -perfect- for some neat earring designs. So theres 2 sizes, small and medium, for the other crimps. I’m not in a hurry for them though :)

Oh, and you wanna know HOW I found this out? Yeah, it was all on the INSIDE of the packaging for the crimp beads. NOT the outside. >.< Ah well :)

So, I’m going to make her some things, and get to play with what’s left over. W00t.

I even have a few pairs of those threader style earrings to play with. I’ve been curious about those.

I’m SO excited about making some more jewelry… she got me TONS of that chain that I like using that I haven’t seen for… many many months.

Other than that, I received the homemade paper I won in the OHOW thing!! I really can’t decide what I want to do with it… I’m sure I’ll figure it out. It’s lovely stuff. I’ll have to take a pic of it later.

Man… see, this is what happens when I get rid of a bunch of stuff… and have good people in my life.

One other thing about today… Whitepaws finished fixing my bike, so we took a short ride down to the store. It was a lovely day. On the way back we ran across some tools on the side of the road. looked like somebody’s tool box fell off the vehicle and it just spewed all over. So we packed it up and we’re going to poke around to find out whose missing their tools.

As for my writing… I finally got rid of GEO! Oy vey… I’m so glad he’s out of the way. He was just… in the way. Not needed. He’s been there from the start and fun to make fun of… but not needed.

*ETA*

Look what I got Saturday! lol
