27 Canvas for my 27th Birthday

I’ve been feeling shitty about my upcoming birthday. Not because I’m getting older, but because another year has gone by of my useless, boring life. I’ve never accomplished much (except pushing myself to learn knitting well). I find people like Regina Spektor and think… damnit! I could have been accomplished like that if things were different.

So I wanted a goal to set for myself, something to do before I turned 27. Something I -can- do but is still a challenge. It took me awhile to come up with the idea, but I think I’m going to do 27 canvases by my birthday, which is May 29th. I need more paints/gesso and more canvases, but I think I’m going to go that route. I also was thinking of instead of canvases, doing a small blank journal specifically for this goal and filling it by my birthday. It would be cheaper to do the book and… I dunno, I like that idea, too. And it would be easier to share in person than 27 canvases.

If I do the canvases I’m going to count that one I did the other day as the first one because its just barely started. So I’ll have that and 3 others to get started on.

Hmm… Whitey like the canvas idea better but I like both equally as well. I bounced around a few other ideas, but its down to those 2 that I like best.

So if somebody out there could help me decide. :-p

  • Book… cheaper, easier to share.
  • Canvases…. well, they’re canvases! how awesome is that? :-p

*ETA* Also… when do I start? Immediately if not sooner, or on May 1st, or to where I have 27 days til my birthday and do one or more a day?

I say go with the book, save the canvases for 30 when you’re 30. But either way, start now. AND 27 is my favorite number. I am not sure why but it is appealing to me. It also happens to be three cubed. It was a good year for me…

Well I think the journal would be the best thing to do for this birthday, I actually came to say why not do the canvases when you are 30 and see that laura had said the same…
Don’t beat up on yourself about what you have achieved - if it has not happened yet, then the BEST is yet to come. PMI is what you need, and from a personal view I feel that art has saved me too, it is so nice to have something fresh to focus on. So prepare to enjoy your birthday and go forward in delight!!!

I agree with the girls too! A Journal would be much freer too (sp.?)! I mean you can out anything and everything in a Journal and I think they’re very liberating…. not that I’ve made one yet, but that’s my instinctive reaction.
As for canvasses, well you could always use tiny ones too, to cut down on costs - that’s if you can work really small. Susan Chong made a really great 2×2″ and a 4×4″ canvas…. Happy upcoming Birthday… now I feel old!! Lol! ;-]

I’d go for the book so you don’t need to rush the canvas thing, but start using canvases also. when you’ve done a page in the journal - if you like it make it larger!
